Sub-Editing
Sub-Editing
Even the work of professional writers can sometimes do with a tweak, especially to make it conform to the particular house style of a publication. When it comes to copy supplied by non-professional writers or those who have English as a second language, a far more thorough approach to subbing is often necessary, partly for ease of understanding and partly to cut over-long copy to fit.
I am skilled in understanding the overall sense of what is being said and expressing this in suitable language and style to suit the audience, without detracting from the writer's own personal style.
Having subbed on national newspapers as well as trade magazines, I am used to dealing with text of all lengths and on all subjects, to a deadline. The subbing function includes writing headlines, standfirsts, captions and other page furniture, as well as getting copy 'legalled' if necessary.
